FORMER East Lancashire MP David Waddington has announced his intention to retire from the House of Lords.
Burnley-born Lord Waddington, 85, a Conservative MP for three East Lancashire constituencies, will step down this month.

In 1990 he was created a life peer as Baron Waddington of Read in the County of Lancashire, and went on to serve as Lord Privy Seal and Leader of the House of Lords until 1992 before becoming Governor of Bermuda (1992 to 1997).
The barrister, who lived in Sabden for many years and was chairman of Clitheroe Constituency Young Conservatives in 1953, held a number of political positions. They included Government Whip from 1979 to 1981; Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Employment from 1981 to 1983, and Minister of State in the Home Office from 1983 to 1987.
Government Chief Whip from 1987 to 1989; and Home Secretary from 1989 to 1990.
Lord Waddington, 85, unsuccessfully contested three General Elections before serving as the MP for Nelson and Colne between 1968 and 1974, for Clitheroe between 1979 and 1883, and for the Ribble Valley between 1983 and 1990.
He now lives in Somerset to be closer to his children.
