Las Moras Viognier 2011, £7.25, Spar
A rich, ripe white (try saying that after a glass or two!) full of the apricot and pineapple flavours that come from the Viognier grape.
The Las Moras estate in exotic-sounding San Juan in Argentina’s Cuyo region is the home of this strong 14% beauty which goes well with fish, chicken and veggie dishes and is well priced too.
Viottolo Terre Siciliane 2012, £7.50, Spar
There can be little argument that Sicily, right down in the southernmost part of Italy, produces the country’s best value and quality red wines today.
Spar clearly know this too which is why they have specially selected this blend of native Nero d’Avola and Shiraz grapes. It’s smooth, full of black cherries and plums and 13.5% alcohol.
