FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a ‘large’ blaze on the moors at Belthorn.
Crews were alerted at around 4pm and said a one kilometre square area was alight, giving off lots of smoke. Firefighters from Darwen, Blackburn, Great Harwood and Accrington were called.
Insp Andy Winter said: "It is quite a large fire."
It was the second such fire of the day after a similiar incident off Tockholes Road, Darwen, shortly after 1pm.
A police community support officer said flames could be seen from around half a mile away.
