MOUNTAIN bikes have been stolen from a Rossendale special school have been stolen for the second time in four months.
Three green and black Apollo Mountain Bikes and a pink Olympic Serene with pink walled tyres and a cream seat were taken by thieves from Tor View School in Clod Lane, Haslingden, on Thursday.
A police investigation has been launched following the latest theft which comes after bikes were taken from the school in December.
Two mountain bikes were taken following the break in on December 13 but were replaced after donations from local businesses and residents.
A local businessman, who wanted to remain anonymous, also bought the school four new bikes.
Peter Sweetmore, chairman of the governors at the school, said: "I'm saddened by this. The fact that people have picked on special needs kids who rely on these bikes so much to gain life skills and they have had the cheek to pinch them off these children is unbelievable.
"Sadly this is the second time that this has happened.
"After the first time the security around the unit where the bikes were kept was bumped up but obviously not by enough.
"The children will be very sad about this but if it's anything like last time the good people of Rossendale will rally around the support this school.
"This is a big blow for the school and we will look again at the security."
A spokesman for Rossendale Police said: In the early hours of Thursday morning some inconsiderate selfish people have chosen to break into a shed in the grounds of Tor View school and steal four bikes.
"If anyone knows anything about this crime or the location of the bikes call 101 quoting EF1502027."
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
