A VILLAGE pony had hair cut off its mane and tail for use in the production of rocking horses, police have said.

A member of the rural watch in Higham reported the incident to police after their animal was attacked.

A police spokesman said: “It was not a professional job and had been done rather crudely.

“It is believed that the hair may be being used in the production of rocking horses and the like.”

It comes as police are also investigating reports that a “a large number” of mole traps are being removed from farmers’ land in the area.

However, it is not believed that the two issues are related.

The spokesman asked for anybody who might be able to help officers with their inquiries to get in touch.

He said: “If you have any information on either of these events, please let me know.”
