IT'S all about the competition in the Swinscoe household.

As 10-year-old go kart driver Archie, is following in his mum's footsteps and taking the Northern Karting Federation Championship by storm.

The Brindle St James Primary School pupil won the hotly contested year-long championship at Fulbeck race track at the same time his mum and co-driver Paul Swinscoe took third place in the Scottish Rally Championship.

The youngster, who has been piloting his Honda Cadet kart for two years, regularly competes against drivers up to 13-years-old.

Clitheroe and District motor club member Paula, said: "We went into the final round in Scotland in joint second position.

"We were fighting it out to be third and fourth.

"We were nine seconds behind the next car but we were the first car on the track so it was really difficult to know if we had done enough.

"Archie was competing at the same time as us, so I was texting my husband John saying 'just won the stage, beat that' and he was responding 'Archie has just won the round beat that'."

Paula took part in the championship alongside her rallying partner Jock Armstrong in a Subaru Impreza.

The family who live in Fellston Road, Witnell have rallying in their blood after Paula followed in her rally driving father's footsteps.

Paula, who ons Rallytech Ltd in Withnell Fold with her husband John, said: "This was my first ever Scottish championship win and it was made even more special to know Archie was doing well too.

"We both love the sport."

John Swinscoe, Paula's husband said: "Archie lives and breathes karting, he just loves it."

Archie will attend a prize giving event at Kartmania at Sliverstone on November 30.
