A DRINK driver who told police :" I could lose my job," did it again two weeks later, a court heard.

Pennine magistrates were told how Paul Andrew Fraser, 26, had asked officers:" How am I going to tell my child I have lost my job?" after he was caught almost twice the legal limit on Westgate, Burnley, on September 26.

He was charged and bailed and on October 12, he was caught again, this time more than double the limit, on Cow Lane, Burnley.

Fraser has a previous conviction for drink driving and because he has already completed a drink drivers' rehabilitation course, which cuts a ban by 25 per cent, he can't do another.

The conviction was in the last 10 years, which meant he had to be disqualified for a minimum of three years this time - which is what the bench imposed.

The defendant, of Coniston Avenue, Padiham, admitted two charges of drink driving. He was given a community order with supervision and an eight week, 9pm to 6am curfew. Fraser must pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The bench chairman told him :" You could have killed people."

Prosecutor Tracy Yates said just after midnight on September 26, the defendant was stopped and blew 68 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35. Sixteen days later, he was stopped again, at 7.30am and gave a test showing 83 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Fraser had been banned for 17 months for drink driving in June 2010.
