A DISC jockey who set off to drive 300 yards to his home after a pub gig was four times the drink drive limit, a court heard.

Pennine magistrates were told how Patrick Carr, 46, had been putting his equipment in the back of his vehicle when he foolishly decided to get behind the wheel rather than leave it in his car.

Carr, of Lenches Road, Colne, admitted driving with excess alcohol on Lenches Road, on October 19. He was banned for 29 months and fined £215, with £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Prosecutor Andrew Robinson said at 2.30am, a police officer stopped the defendant and could smell drink on his breath.

The defendant gave a positive roadside breath test and at the police station the lower of two samples showed 120 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35. Carr had no previous convictions.

David Lawson, for the defendant, said the high reading was an aggravating feature.

Carr had been a disc jockey at The Admiral Lord Rodney pub, which was about 300 yards away from the entrance to his home.

The solicitor said: "He accepts there is no excuse for him driving his vehicle on this particular night."
