A YOUNGSTER was airlifted to hospital following an accident at an East Lancashire quarry.
Emergency services were called to Com Quarry, in Whitworth after receiving reports the boy had head injuries.
A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We arrived on the scene at 2.16pm on Saturday. There was also a rapid response vehicle and a helicopter.
“We took a minor by air ambulance to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital with head injuries.”
It is understood the boy’s injuries were not life threatening and were caused after he fell off a motorbike.
Mount Carmel High School pupil Logan Wood, 12, from Oswaldtwistle, died after suffering serious injuries in a motocross accident at the quarry on October 1.
In August 2006, 16-year-old Matthew Entwistle, from Britannia, near Bacup, suffered multiple injuries and died when he dropped 50ft down the vertical slope at the venue.
A spokesman for Rossendale Council said they had been informed of the latest incident.
He said: “The council’s principal environmental health officer has reviewed the details of the incident at the weekend and information from the ongoing investigation of the previous incident.
“In his professional judgement, no further action is needed as it is recognised that motocross is a hazardous activity and there is nothing to suggest the incident at the weekend was anything more than a typical spill for this sport.”
