AN investigation is said to be underway after vandals reportedly targeted amateur gardeners at an allotment site in Nelson.
Residents complained to the town’s area committee after a small parking area, at the top of the allotments on Hollins Road, was laid with loose stones.
Neighbours told councillors that the stones had been used to smash windows on the adjacent greenhouses and one elderly person had been struck by a missile.
Coun Mohammed Iqbal said that they would liaise with the town council, which was now responsible for managing the allotments, and the borough council’s engineering and special projects manager, Peter Atkinson, to tackle the issue.
Work would take place on a scheme to possibly resurface the car park.
Allotment holders are also looking to be given permission to burn their own waste on the site and this matter has also been referred to town councillors.
