TWO local butchers have made the finals of the Q butchers Guild Smithfield Awards, the annual high profile meat product competition.
A total of 479 products from 54 members nationwide have been entered, including Riley’s Butchers, from Crawshawbooth in Rossendale and Walmsley’s Butchers, from Ramsbottom.
Riley’s has put six products forward: free range green pepper and shallot sausage, free range pork with stilton and asparagus sausage, gourmet rump steak burgers, fruity stuffed collar roast, pork and black pudding picnic pie, and crispy shallot chicken.
Walmsley’s has put seven products before the judges: a quarter-pound beefburger, cured beef fillet, dry cured back bacon, mature cheddar & onion pie, steak & kidney pie, lancashire hotpot, and oxtail and skirt bistro pie.
