Well, of James Avenue and Landon, of Palatine Buildings, both Great Harwood, each admitted burglary, committed on October 26, 2012, and were each given two years in custody, suspended for two years, at Burnley Crown Court.
Emma Kehoe, prosecuting, said the flat was rented by Anthony Fearnley and Rebecca Jackson and they spent the evening with a friend, chatting and having some drinks. The couple went to bed and the friend fell asleep on the sofa.
Just before 12.30am, the friend was awoken by the presence of a number of men in the living area. She saw two go into the bedroom.
Mr Fearnley and Miss Jackson were woken up and Mr Fearnley recalled one of them saying: “Do you remember me? Do you know me? Do you know who I am?”
Mr Fearnley didn’t know them and it became apparent the men in the bedroom were in the wrong house.
Miss Kehoe said: “Before they left, George Landon took a key and Mr Well took some money from the kitchen.”
The prosecutor said there was a noise of the front door being punched and the friend called the police.
Officers arrived and the defendants merely had their details taken at that point. They were later arrested.
Landon made no comment to questions put to him. Well denied going into the flat that night. Police found some fingerprints belonging to him inside the property. Well had no previous convictions.
