CROWN prosecutors are considering a revised report into Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw’s expenses.

In January, they decided against taking the former milkman to court following an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation into allegations he ‘over-claimed’ £1,550 during his county council work.

They came from former Accrington police sergeant Sam Chapman following Mr Grunshaw’s election to the £85,000-a-year post in November 2012.

The author of the ‘Top of the Cops’ website said he had discovered the commissioner double-claiming for the same journeys when a Lancashire county councillor and member of the police authority.

In January the Crown Prosecution Service decided against pros-ecuting Mr Grunshaw saying ‘the evidence suggested errors rather than deliberacy in his part’.

Mr Chapman then alleged some of the evidence in the IPCC report about claims Mr Grunshaw could have made but did not was inaccurate.

The IPCC then prepared an addendum to their report which has now gone back to the CPS in London.

Mr Chapman, a former Chorley Tory county councillor, said: “I am glad that the CPS has got this new report.

“I discovered on reading the original report that some of the evidence provided by the IPCC was inaccurate.

“I hope we can finally get a decision from the CPS in which everyone can have confidence.”

An IPCC spokesman said: “After carrying out additional investigatory work into the expenses claims of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire, an addendum report was passed to the Crown Prosecution Service in September.

“The additional work examined occasions when Clive Grunshaw did not submit expenses claims for items he was potentially entitled to.”

A CPS spokesman said: “We received a further report from the IPCC at the end of September. We are considering the contents and will be announcing our decision in due course.”

Blackburn MP Jack Straw said: “I hope that this issue can soon be brought to an end.”

Mr Grunshaw declined to comment until the CPS announced its final conclusion. Mr Grun-shaw has also paid back £796.70 in mileage expenses he claimed in error, at a higher rate than he was entitled to as commissioner.
