A HOUSE fire was started in Blackburn after a cigarette was left in a wicker waste bin at a home Langham Road shortly after 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Acting watch manager Lee Garnett said: “A large amount of thick black smoke was issuing from the bedroom.

“A firefighter entered the property initially to rescue a cat whilst breathing apparatus wearers extinguished the fire.”
