AN energetic charity campaigner from East Lancashire has performed a sky dive and run a half-marathon in support of a friend diagnosed with cancer.
Elisabeth Devey devised her £10,000 ‘Liz to the Limit’ challenge after hearing how her friend, Natalie Gabrielsen, who lives in Burnley, had been diagnosed for a second time with a brain tumour.
The pair had been friends since they attended Westholme School in Blackburn.
Before setting out on her 12-month long slog, Elisabeth, from Rishton, freely confessed that she was not a natural when it came to exercise.
But she has now completed a 10km run in Manchester, to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, and followed that up with the Birmingham half-marathon.
And with her training rounds now stretching beyond Rishton, Clayton-le-Moors and Great Harwood, and into Blackburn, her ultimate goal is to take part in the Disney Marathon in Orlando, Florida, next January. She has also recently taken part in a sky dive, in her trademark ‘Mickey Mouse’ ears.
Elisabeth, known to her friends as Wizzy, said: “Natalie is a beautiful young lady, loving wife and mum to a baby girl, who is in need of a cure, to which there is not one.
“Further investigating brain tumours, I was shocked to discover that they are the biggest cancer in children and adults under 40.”
Another major fundraiser will see her stage ‘Natalie’s Ball’ at the Fisherman’s Retreat in Shuttleworth, near Ramsbottom, on Saturday, November 8.
An evening of ‘fun and laughter’ is planned and tickets can be obtained by contacting Liz on 07824 998054 or going to her ‘Liz to the Limit’ BT fund-raising page.
