FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house after a halogen heater fell over in a bathroom.
On their arrival at the house in Livingstone Road, Blackburn yesterday at 10.50am, the crew found large amounts of smoke coming from the bathroom window and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went inside to extinguish the flames.
Ventilation units were then used to remove smoke from the room.
Acting watch manager Lee Garnett said: “The occupant had no smoke alarms fitted and was only alerted by smelling smoke. Smoke alarms save lives.
“You are more than twice as likely to die in a fire at home if you haven’t got one.
“A smoke alarm is the easiest way to alert you to the danger of fire, giving you and your family precious time to escape.
