A 49-YEAR-OLD man threw himself at a glass shop window after police had escorted him out of the Royal Blackburn Hospital and given him a lift into town.

Blackburn magistrates heard Michael Earnest Clark cut his hands as the £450 pane of glass smashed.

Clark, of Largs Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £450 compensation.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said police became involved when Clark refused to leave the hospital despite being told to go by staff.

“The police took him into town but he refused to leave the car when they stopped in Hall Street,” said Mr Robinson.

“When they eventually got him out he threw himself against the plate glass window of a car accessories shop causing it to smash.”

Clark, who was not represented, said he had no reason or explanation to offer for his behaviour “My head just went,” he said.
