A PROLIFIC crook who went on a car raiding spree to fund his amphetamine and alcohol addictions has been jailed for 18 weeks.
Burnley Magistrates Court heard how Wesley Andrew, 37, who has 80 offences on his criminal record, helped himself to other people’s property worth thousands of pounds, after attacking six vehicles in the town.
Andrew, who pinched a £675 laptop and caused £200 damage smashing his way into a vehicle in Cloverdale Way, was finally trapped when he spilled beer all over one vehicle as he took a toolbox and tried to remove the stereo.
He left the can and scenes of crime officers found his DNA on it.
The hearing was told when two police officers turned up to arrest the defendant, he was aggressive, was told repeatedly to calm down, kicked and shouted and tried to sink his teeth into an officer's hand as he tried to handcuff him.
He remained silent when questioned.
Andrew, formerly of Claughton Street, Burnley, admitted six counts of theft from a vehicle, two charges of resisting police, one of vehicle interference and one of handling stolen goods in the first two weeks of October.
Nick Cassidy, defending, said Andrew didn’t dispute any of the prosecution case.
Andrew, who had been in and out of prison, had battled amphetamine and alcohol use and had depression issues.
