A MAN challenged while trying to steal booze from a supermarket brandished a knife.
The incident happened at Tesco in Hill Street, Blackburn, where the man, thought to be in his 20s, took two bottles of alcohol and tried to leave without paying.

When staff and security guards challenged him, he threatened them with a bread knife and fled.
Police have issued a CCTV image of the man, described as a white male of a slim build wearing black trousers, a black shirt, light- coloured jacket and a black and white cap.
The incident happened at 1.20am on Saturday, September 6.
DC Rob Sledge, of Blackburn CID, said: “I would urge everyone to take a good look at the CCTV footage and anyone who may recognise him should get in touch with police as soon as possible.
“The staff at the supermarket were very brave to confront the man and this was understandably a traumatic incident for all involved.”
