BLACKBURN Rovers legend Alan Shearer has been inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame

Shearer, who holds the Premier League record for goals with 260, received the award on Thursday night alongside former Burnley star Jimmy McIlroy.

“It is a special honour to be recognised alongside so many greats of the game’s history,” said Shearer. “I am particularly pleased to be receiving my award in the same year as Hughie Gallacher.”

Shearer was a key member of Rovers’ 1994/95 Premier League winning team and scored 130 goals in 171 games for the club.

“It's an incredible story where Blackburn came from,” he said.

"To come from the old Second Division into the Premier League and take on the big boys - Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal - and beat them as we did.

"To have won the Premier League within three years of being in the Premier League is a staggering achievement and I don't think that will ever be done again.

"To do it in the way we did, scoring a number of goals, it was a great time to be involved with Kenny (Dalglish) as manager, Ray Harford as coach and Jack Walker backing it; they were great times.

"They hold a big place in my heart at Blackburn.

"It's been a tough number of years for them now so I just hope they can get through that and get back to where they belong."
