A BURNLEY-born BAFTA-winning TV producer has died at his Cheshire home, aged 83.
Don Haworth, who also wrote plays for Radio 4 inspired by his upbringing in the town, began his career in local newspapers, working on the Manchester News Chronicle and the Manchester Guardian, after flying as a navigator with the RAF during the Second World War.
He got his first breaks in television while travelling in Canada and the USA, and returned to Britain to work on the Tonight programme and producing Panorama in the 1960s.
His BAFTA came with the programmes he made with Bolton steeplejack Fred Dibnah and his travels through the architecture of northern England.
Mr Howarth, a Burnley FC season ticket holder and former pupil of Lionel Street School and Burnley Grammar School, leaves his second wife Jean, two children and two grandchildren. His funeral was at Stockport Crematorium.
