The woman, who is believed to be in her 60s, had been walking behind the parked car shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday when it rolled back and knocked her down.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital after suffering a broken wrist, cuts and bruises as well as a suspected head injury.

Police said the accident was thought to have been caused by a fault with the handbrake.

A spokesman from the North West Ambulance Service said that her injuries “were not thought to be life-threatening”.

An ambulance crew, a rapid response ambulance and advanced paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was airlifted to hospital.

Officers were also called to the same road at 10pm on the same day after a collision between a lorry, a Toyota Yaris and a Toyota Auris.

Zara Khan was one of the motorists whose car was damaged by the lorry. A police spokeswoman said that the damage was caused by a truck that failed to stop at the scene.

Coun Hussain Akhtar, who represents the area on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said he had had safety concerns about East Park Road for a while and the road had a particular issue with speeding motorists.

He said: “I’m very sad that this woman has been injured in this way. East Park Road is a very dangerous road and people speed down it all the time.

“If something is not done to curb the speed then someone will die and I’m sure of that.

“We need to get some speed management measures in place along there and a zebra crossing would provide a safe place for people to cross the road.

“We need to do something before something really bad happens.”
