A FIRST World War commemoration service, attended by Prince Charles and top dignitaries, went with military precision thanks to a Royal Navy officer from Burnley.
Warrant Officer Dickie Henderson, 47, was responsible for choreographing and enforcing all the ceremonial procedures and duties for the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, at the UK's Commemoration Service in Glasgow Cathedral on Monday.
The ceremony, and the wreath laying ceremony in George Square was attended by The Prince of Wales and leaders from across the Commonwealth, including Prime Minister David Cameron and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond.
Mr Henderson, 47, who attended Edge End High School, Nelson, is the state ceremonial training officer, based at HMS Collingwood in Portsmouth and is responsible for planning, coordinating and training naval personnel for state ceremonial occasions.
He said: “It is very important to me that I have been able to pay tribute to the memory of all those who fought for our country, many losing their lives.
“Ensuring that all personnel from across the three services were immaculately turned out and precision perfect in their duties was an important part of this act of remembrance.”
He was a member of Burnley’s Sea Cadet unit TS Lookout for six years and joined the navy in 1982.
The officer has served on board HMS Exeter, Cardiff, Manchester, Ark Royal and Intrepid during career.
He now lives in Portsmouth with his girlfriend Debbie and has five children including daughter Lauren who still lives in Burnley.
