NO fewer than eight locations in East Lancashire could benefit from a £1million road safety fund, it has been announced.
County council highways cabinet member, county councillor John Fillis, unveiled the fund last October.
And now roads officials have now presented their recommendations for approved schemes.
Union Road and Market Street in Oswaldtwistle has been earmarked for the largest works, a £125,000 scheme.
This will include build-outs, the relocation of a speed camera and conversion of a pelican into a puffin crossing.
Another £86,000 will be targetted on Leeds Road, Nelson, between Reedyford Road and Whitewalls Drive - a frequent hangout for boy racers - for anti-skid surfaces, enhanced signage and lights retimings.
And just over £40,000 has been approved to comprehensively review traffic calming measures in south-west Burnley, to be carried out next year.
Speed indication devices will be installed along the A680 Whalley Road at Clayton-le-Moors, and part of Grane Road in Haslingden, with village roads in Cowpe and Wilpshire placed on reserve lists for future consideration.
Paul Binks, road and transport safety manager, said: “Following discussions with UCLan, a methodology was developed that has allowed casualty data across Lancashire to be analysed to identify areas and groups on which to focus road safety interventions.”
