AN apprentice groundsman who keeps the hallowed pitch at Turf Moor in top condition has won an award for his work.
Chris Pickles has been recognised in the Myerscough College Apprenticeship awards. He won the Sportsturf – Groundsman – Intermediate category.
Chris works full-time at Burnley Football Club under the direction of head groundsman Paul Bradshaw, himself a former Myerscough College student.
He was selected from a large number of achievers for the award which recognised the high quality work and dedication shown by Chris during his Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeship in Grounds-manship, which he has now completed.
He had already carried out work experience with the Clarets and said it was ‘fantastic’ to be back working full-time at the Turf.
He said: “It’s great to receive this award and I would like to thank Paul and the team at Burnley FC for giving me the chance and for the support during this apprenticeship.
“I first came to Burnley FC during my year 10 work experience placement, and it’s fantastic to now be working full-time at the club.
“Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to find jobs, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for this type of career.”
Chris attended a formal presentation at Myerscough College and was presented with his award by Edwin Booth DL, Myerscough College patron and Chairman of E.H. Booth & Co. Ltd. He also received work wear as a prize.
