A DRINK-driver caught twice the legal limit had been taken out to the pub after his partner suffered a miscarriage, Burnley magistrates heard.
Welder Rhys Lewis Holmes, 24, of Burnley Road, Colne, admitted driving with excess alcohol on New Market Street, Colne, no insurance, obstructing police and no test certificate, on July 5. He was fined £280, with a £28 victim surcharge and was banned for 20 months.
Alex Mann, prosecuting, said police were looking out for the vehicle after calls from the public about erratic driving. Officers saw it parked up and saw the defendant get in and drive off.
Holmes was stopped by tried to run away.
Nick Cassidy, defending, said Holmes 'partner had had a miscarriage. His friend decided to take him to the pub for a pint.
Holmes intended to leave the car there, but made a foolish mistake in taking it home. The solicitor added: "He fully co-operated with the police and apologised to the officer. This defendant is genuinely remorseful."
