A REVIEW of the way land around war graves at Clitheroe cemetery is maintained to be carried out Ribble Valley residents, including Nigel Evans MP, contacted the council claiming land around 30 war graves had become ‘overgrown’.
Ribble Valley Borough Council deputy leader Simon Hore said: “The practice of turning older cemeteries into wild-flower areas is common and certainly not a sign of neglect.
"When requested by families, we cut paths to the graves. Many families say how lovely the area looks.”
He said the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is satisfied with the site which is not a dedicated war graves cemetery.
