POLICE have repeated their calls for parents to know where their children are during the summer holidays following warnings about youngsters risking their lives diving into open water.
The force raised the alarm about teenagers and young people ‘tombstoning’ just weeks after an East Lancashire teenager died in a reservoir.
Officers have increased patrols around Jamestone Quarry, in Haslingden, after finding teenagers leaping off a 30ft rock face into the 10-metre deep water known locally as the ‘Blue Lagoon’.
The incident came as Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service revealed its firefighters had attended 10 incidents where people got into difficulties in water since the beginning of the year.
PCSO Rachel Lonsdale, of Burnley Police, said: “Please could all parents be aware of what their children are doing, especially when the weather is nice. We are still having reports of children swimming in reservoirs and lakes.”
