THE parents of eye cancer tot Elyssa Davies have breathed a huge sigh of relief after being told the disease had not spread.

One-year-old Elyssa had to have her right eye rem-oved last month after a tumour was discovered.

And parents Natasha Scott and Philip Davies were also given the devastating news that a tumour had also been found in her other eye, although doct-ors believe they can treat it to keep it at bay.

They faced an anxious wait to see if Elyssa’s can-cer had spread, but have now been told it has not.

Medical chiefs have also told the couple, of Gordon Street, Darwen, the cancer in her left eye had resp-onded well to treatment.

Natasha, 27, said: “We went to London on Wedne-sday and we found out the cancer was contained to the eye. The other eye has responded well to treatm-ent, and there are no other tumours.”

Natasha said Elyssa was now awaiting a second ‘conformer’ to replace an existing one that keeps the shape of her eye socket while a permanent prosth-etic eye is manufactured.

She said: “She is getting a second conformer in the next three weeks, and we are not sure how long it will be before she gets the fake eye, but it will probab- ly be a couple of months.

“The eye socket is heal-ing really well, and there was no infection.

“It was a big relief for us. We were terrified when we went down but, when we heard, it was the best news we have had in a long time.

“Elyssa is fine. She has got her bounce back.”

Since the diagnosis, fam-ily and friends have rallied round and raised cash to help Natasha and Philip aff- ord regular trips to Lon-don.

A fundraising page has raised more than £3,000 and other events are in the pipeline.

Staff from Primrose House Children’s Nursery have organised a sponsored walk from the Printworks, in Manchester, back to Darw-en on Saturday, June 14.

And a charity football match will be held at AFC Darwen’s WEC Group An-chor Ground on Sunday, June 29, from 9.30am.

Natasha said: “We have had some really generous donations. It has been amaz- ing and really helpful as it is so expensive, and we have to take time off work, and pay all the bills.”
