MORE than £90,000 has been handed out in one-off grants to support the efforts of unpaid carers in East Lancashire.

But another £110,000 is still on offer from Lancashire County Council and East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The largest single grant, of £34,838, has been awarded to Crossroads East Lancashire to develop their Singing for the Brain sessions, for people with dementia and their carers.

And their counterparts in the Ribble Valley are receiving £17,404 as they look to establish an activity club for young people aged 16 to 25 with a learning disability, to give carers a break.

Carers Link will share £35,700 between two initiatives, the first to provide a link worker for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans carers, and the second to offer smaller grants for carers’ support.

Longridge Community Gym also gets £3,000 for a variety of carers’ classes.

The finances were provided by the CCG and the grants were decided by officers involved with carers. But as the allocation has not been spent, a second round is planned for later in the year.
