A GRANDMOTHER and her seven-year-old grandson were taken to hospital after being in collision with a van on a zebra crossing.
The 72-year-old was with the child in Burnley Road, Blackburn, near Tesco superstore, when the incident involving a Ford Transit Twin Cab van happened.
It took place at about 10.30am yesterday and police closed one side of the road, heading towards the Whitebirk roundabout, until 12.45pm.
The pair were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital, where the woman received treatment for leg and hip injuries but the child was found to be unharmed. A police spokeswoman said: “The hospital said they were hopeful she would make a full recovery.”
The accident caused delays for drivers using Burnley Road to access the motorway as well as coming the other way into Blackburn from junction six of the M65.
Last month, a four-vehicle collision brought the road to a standstill when a Ford Fiesta, Jaguar, VW Polo and a Mercedes Sprinter van collided.
Police and paramedics were called at 12.15pm on Friday, January 24, but found that none of the drivers or passengers had sustained any injuries.
A 23-year-old man from Leeds has been arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention following yesterday’s incident.
