PLANS to bring a ‘parkrun’ to Colne are said to be gathering pace.
Pendle Council is working with Lancashire County Council and volunteers to bring a regular weekly, organised run to Alkincoats Park and Holt House playing fields.
‘Parkrun’ is an international movement that organises free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world.
Coun Nadeem Ahmed, who represents parks and recreation in Pendle, said: “Throughout the UK there are over 200 parkrun events every Saturday morning. It would be wonderful for Colne to host one of them.
“A group of really enthusiastic people came along to our first meeting late last year. Some of them have run in other parkrun events in the North and have experience of volunteering at parkruns.
“They’ve already shown that they are committed to helping us set up the Alkincoats event.
“We’re hopeful we can get everything in place to launch Pendle’s parkrun in the spring.”
A second meeting to discuss the plans will be held at Colne and Nelson Rugby Club at 7pm on February 25.
