A PROJECT to ensure older people ‘live well’ in their advancing years could bring £6million to Hyndburn, Burnley and Pendle.
Tackling social isolation for the over-50s is the key aim of a bid by Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale CVS to the Big Lottery Fund.
The fund’s Fulfilling Lives: Aging Better programme is on the lookout for marquee schemes to provide active support for the idea in neighbourhoods around the UK.
Coun Pauline McCormick, Pendle Council’s older people’s champion, said: “The CVS has identified four areas of concern to older people in the three boroughs — health and wellbeing, access to services, transport, and financial security.
“They want to be sure they’re on the right track and are holding events in each of the three boroughs to hear from people directly about what they would like support with.
“This event gives them the opportunity to strengthen the joint bid to the Big Lottery Fund and to help bring the money to this area of Pennine Lancashire.”
One of the first consultation events will take place at the ACE Centre in Nelson on Tuesday, from 1.30pm, and others are planned in Burnley and Hyndburn.
Older people, their families and carers are invited to go along and have their say and enjoy an afternoon tea which will be provided free of charge.
The CVS would like to hear from anyone interested in the project. Call Shirley Ashworth on 01282 433740 ext 1006 or email shirley.ashworth@ bprcvs.co.uk.
