A MAN seriously assaulted in Blackburn last year has died in hospital.
41-year-old Derek Wildeman was seriously assaulted at his home address on Coleridge Street on 24th February 2013.
Two men, an uncle and nephew, were jailed in connection with his assault in October 2013.
Steven Quigley, 31, of Rothesay Road, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to section 18 wounding with intent.
He was told he must serve a minimum of six years, minus the time already spend on remand, before being considered for release. He will remain on licence for the rest of his life.
Gary Quigley, 43, of Hancock Street, pleaded guilty to section 20 wounding in June and was sentenced to 20 months in prison, minus the time already spend on remand.
Sadly at 3am this morning, Derek Wildeman, 41, died at Royal Preston Hospital. He had been undergoing rehabilitation in Burnley but returned to hospital after his condition deteriorated.
A Home Office post mortem examination will take place to establish how he died. Discussions will then take place with the CPS to decide if any further charges will be brought.
