SWEETS and cakes will no longer be handed out to celebrate the birthdays of pupils at a Bacup School.
The decision by the parent and teachers association at Britannia Community Primary School comes after a parents panel decided sweet treats would not be distributed anymore.
A spokeswoman for Lancashire County Council said schools telling parents not to send children into school with sweets and cakes to distribute is common. She said: “Children were becoming upset when their parents didn’t give them cakes for the other children, so the parents proposed stopping it altogether.
“Many schools are trying to promote healthy eating as well.”
