A 100-YEAR-OLD tree in a Nelson park is to be felled as it has been deemed a potential danger to visitors.
The old horse chestnut tree, which overhangs a footpath close to the Old Hall in Marsden Park, is to be cut down.
Coun Nadeem Ahmed, who represents parks in Pendle, said: “From time to time we have to remove trees from our parks because of their condition.
“It’s a shame to lose it but the safety of visitors to the park is so important to us.”
The tree is to be removed within weeks.
The green flag park is the largest park in Pendle and features tennis courts, bowling greens, pseudo-roman spa bath, an ornamental pond and marsh area, a circular garden, sensory garden and a Lady's Garden.
On Saturday, February 8, a team of volunteers joined park keepers and the Friends of Marsden Park to plant new trees to give the park a new lease of life.
