EAST Lancashire businesses face a major IT headache after a decision from global giants Microsoft.
The warning comes from Colne-based Holker Network Solutions after Microsoft announced the withdrawal of all support and updates for the popular Windows XP computer programme.
Matthew Metcalfe, Holker’s managing director, said: “This is a serious and worrying situation “As from April 8, all technical assistance for Windows XP will cease, including automatic updates that help protect PCs.
Microsoft will also stop providing Microsoft Security Essentials for downloads on Windows XP on this date.
“While computers will still function, they will become more likely to suffer from security risks and viruses.
“Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimise for more recent versions of Windows, we can all expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.”
He is urging businesses currently using Window XP to address the matter as quickly as possible to safeguard the short and long term future.”
