YOUNGSTERS hoping to make a career in news will get the chance after an initiative was launched.

Breaking Into News 2014 will offer journalists of the future the opportunity to showcase their talent.

The young people, aged between 18 and 25, from across the North West, will be tutored by journalists from ITV newsrooms across the country in writing, reporting, and production skills.

The scheme will be fronted by news presenters Rageh Omaar, Julie Etchingham, and Charlene White, and was specially designed to encourage diversity in broadcast journalism, and to support young people who wouldn’t normally have this kind of opportunity.

The young people will develop a news report, and the best will present their idea to top TV executives, who will consider it for inclusion in the evening’s national news.

One finalist will also win an iPad and spend a day with the team producing ITV News At Ten.
