TWO teenage boys from Blackburn have been given the chance to pursue their dreams of becoming professional dancers.

Harry Carter and Morgan Chambers, both 15, were offered places on a dance and musical theatre course at three of the country’s most prestigious colleges – Bird College, Laine Theatre Arts and Performers.

Each school, based near London, is renowned for offering the best in professional dance training and their exceptionally high standards and the boys had to see off thousands of other competitors to be offered their places.

Both boys train at the Bernese School of Dance in Blackburn, based at Thwaites Empire Theatre.

St Bede’s pupil Harry said: “I like the fluency and the way people move their bodies when they are dancing. I started dancing around three years ago and it was a bit weird at first because people think boys shouldn’t dance.

“But I did not let the stick bother me and as I have got a bit older people have accepted it.”

Harry and Morgan will now audition this weekend to star in Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the Flies.

Morgan, who has been dancing for eight years and attends Saint Wilfrid’s, said: “I used to play football because my dad was a semi-professional. Then on holiday I was talking to a woman about how her daughter dances.

“I said I would like to try it. That was eight years ago.”

Bernese principal, Bernadette Bolton, added: “Being offered a place in either one of the colleges would have been wonderful, but to be accepted at all three is a massive achievement.”

Funding at the colleges would cost between £36,000 and £50,000 plus living costs, Bernadette said, and the boys may need the help of sponsors to fund their education.
