A SCHOOL has opened a further education facility for teenagers.

Tor View Special School in Haslingden has opened the facility, for 16 to 19-year-olds on the site of the old Ewood Day Centre, now known as the school’s ‘Ewood Campus’.

The school will place older students in ability-based groups to be taught adult literacy and numeracy.

Other courses include life skills, home management, business enterprise and ICT. Students also select one of three vocational options as a specialism.

It comes after the school gained its third successive outstanding Ofsted report.

The governing body has since promoted headteacher, Andy Squire to the post of principal and former deputy headteacher Angela Holdsworth has been appointed headteacher.

Mr Squire said: “In spite of the bar being set ever higher, staff and pupils have shown that standards have been not only maintained but built upon.

“In our recent Ofsted inspection the work of teaching assistants and teachers could not be praised more highly and we are very proud of the whole staff team.”
