FOUR pupils have been disciplined following an incident at a Blackburn school.
Keith Ballard, headteacher at Our Lady and St John Catholic College, said he had been left ‘disappointed’ by the behaviour of four boys at the school.
Police were also called by a member of staff at the North Road college shortly before school ended on Thursday after reports of a gang of youths waiting nearby.
There had been concerns that an incident inside the building earlier in the day might have spilled into the street.
A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said a 15-year-old pupil had to be taken to hospital on the same day for treatment after a ‘bang on the head’.
It is not known if her injuries were related to the incident.
Mr Ballard said the situation at the school had since calmed.
He said: “We are disappointed that a small number of our pupils have let down the very high standards we set as a school.
“They have been punished. We have the full co-operation of their parents and no further instances have occurred.
“We will constantly strive to develop the pupils to be responsible citizens and a credit to our local area.”
Following the incident, youngsters took to social networking sites to voice their concerns.
One said: “OLSJ all hyped up because there has been a fight at school.”
One girl said: “What has OLSJ turned into? I feel so embarrassed for them all.”
A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said: “We got a call from somebody reporting that there was a large group of youths on the corner of North Road and that the kids were about to be let out of school for the day.
“The informant called because there had already been an incident at the school.
“They were worried there was going to be some disorder.
“The group of youths was moved along towards the Audley area.
“Neighbourhood policing officers stayed in the area for a short time.”
The NWAS spokeswoman said: “We got a call at 12.10pm to Our Lady and St John to a report of a bang on the head.
“We took a 15-year-old female to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.”
