A BOY band performed in front of hundreds of excited children at a high school – only to announce they were splitting up just hours later.
ReConnected, who were finalists in Britain's Got Talent in 2010 and had two Top 40 singles, performed for the students of Blackburn Central High School (BCHS) last Friday.
However, later that evening the band, made up of former Burnley College student Harry Mondryk, his brother Max and Matthew Fitzgerald posted a video message confirming rumours that they had split up and are now pursuing solo careers.
BCHS won the visit by taking part in the Education Rocks awards, where the school’s head, Diane Atkinson, who took over the post last September, was presented with the head teacher of the year award.
The band also performed to crowds at the Blackburn Christmas Lights switch-on in November.
One of the members, Harry Mondryk, 17, completed a BTEC in music at Burnley College in 2012.
Last year the group supported Little Mix on a 22-date tour.
They were also signed to RKA Records, a label part owned by Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne.
They had chart success with the singles with One In a Million and Time of Our Lives.
Andrew James, e-learning manager at the Haslingden Road school, said: “There was no indication at all that the band were about the split up.
“The boys entertained the students for the afternoon, followed by a signing session and photographs with many of their fans at BCHS.
“But later that night they posted a video message announcing that they had split up and would be pursuing solo careers.
“The school is very proud to have hosted ReConnected’s final performance, and wishes them the best of luck with in the future.”
