A BURNLEY man has been jailed for at least 35 years for murdering policewoman PC Sharon Beshenivsky during a bungled armed robbery.

PC Beshenivsky - a mother of five - was gunned down and her colleague PC Teresa Milburn shot in the shoulder as the pair went to an armed robbery at a Bradford travel agents last November.

Shah was charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery and a string of firearms offences following the raid.

Before a lengthy trial at Newcastle Crown Court he pleaded guilty to the murder, robbery and firearms charges.

He was acquitted of the attempted murder of PC Milburn on the direction of the judge.

Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, who was found guilty of murder, robbery and firearms offences, was also ordered to serve a minimum of 35 years.

The pair were described as the "absolutely ruthless" key members of the gang that carried out the robbery.

He was told he must serve at least 11 years.

Sentencing was adjourned on Hassan Razzaq, 26, who was also convicted of manslaughter, robbery and firearms offences.
