ONE of the students accused of murdering former Rossendale rugby player William David Prosser has had his case dismissed.

Charges were dropped against Ross Perry, 21, who was arrested alongside Matthew Bourne, 21, in connection with the murder of Mr Prosser.

The 36-year-old died in April following a night out in Colchester, Essex.

The two students, both from St Osyth near Clacton, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court last week, when the case against Perry was dismissed by the judge.

Remaining defendant Bourne has been released on conditional bail and will appear in court again on April 2.

Mr Prosser, 36, known as Dave, played for Rossendale first and second teams when he moved to Newchurch in 1999.

The Gulf War veteran moved to Oldham in 2000, where he worked as a financial advisor.
