EAST Lancashire community groups have been given some pre-Christmas cheer after sharing a slice of £880,000 lottery money handed out to good causes across the North West.

Meadowhead Community Junior School, Blackburn received £3,500.

Stoops and Hargher Clough Community Association, Burnley received £5,865.

Chorley and District Choral Society also hit a high note - it was awarded £4,240 to stage a two-day community music work shop.

Other winners included: Livesey Parish Community Association, Blackburn (£10,000); Creative Support Ltd, Blackburn (£2,253); Blackburn with Darwen Action Learning Network (£10,000); Arden Youth Choir, Pendle (£5,825); Lancashire County Council (£7,250); Jinnah Community Development Service, Burnley (£6,000); Briercliffe Bowling Club, Burnley (£4,400); Billington and Langho Parish Council (£9,914); Rossendale Domestic Violence Forum (£10,000); Oswaldtwistle Players (£4,171); Pendle Duke of Edinburgh's Award (£3,500); 92 (Chorley) Squadron Air Training Corps (£3,970); Bancroft Mill Engine Trust, Barnoldswick (£10,000) and St Joseph's RC Primary School, Stacksteads (£4,810).
