TWO ‘suspicious’ men spotted at a disused mill in Rishton have been reported to police.
The two men were reported to have cut the lock off the gate at Wheatfield Mill, Wheatfield Street.
They were seen driving around the site in a white Peugeot with no lights on by residents, who called police.
A police spokeswoman said a patrol was sent to the mill after the men were seen at around 7.20pm on Saturday night.
She said: “We had a report of suspicious circumstances. Police went straight out but within five minutes they had gone. A pair of boltcutters were left at the scene.
“It’s a derelict property and there was nothing of value inside.”
The site was later secured with a new lock, she added.
Councillor Ken Moss said: “By 9am on Sunday we had made moves to resecure that site.
“We have had problems in the past there before with travellers, and it caused a lot of disruption for residents, so we are keen not to repeat that.”
