BLACKBURN MP Jack Straw took to the driving seat of a new safety bus aimed at helping vulnerable people on a night out.
The Safe Haven bus will be stationed outside Blakey's Cafe, Northgate, Blackburn, on Friday and Saturday nights to provide a sanctuary for distressed or drunken people who have become separated from their friends.
It is hoped the bus will reduce the number of people who are injured or fall victim to a crime while out in the town.
Mr Straw cut the ribbon to launch the bus with the help of the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Dorothy Walsh, and police sergeant Rachel Baines.
