BLACKBURN: A coroner has said there have been "developments" in the hunt for the hit-and-run killer of a schoolgirl.

The comments were made by East Lancashire coroner Michael Singleton as the inquest into the death of seven-year-old Olivia Whiteside was opened and adjourned.

Olivia, of Goldhey Street, Blackburn, died after being struck by a black 4x4 vehicle at the junction of Billinge Street and Dalton Close, Audley, on July 27.

After the hearing, the detective leading the investigation into Olivia's death, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Hunter, said that no arrest was imminent but said officers are examining "several lines of inquiry."
