The first words that come to mind on hearing Rex Radio's Flashboy are Franz Ferdinand.
They have a lot in common with the Scottish art-dance-rockers, especially the vocals, but with a much less highbrow slant to the lyrics.
There are no clever lyrical turns and no knowing references to Gavrilo Princip, just a straight-ahead tale of desire down at the club set to an insistently angular riff, crisp drums and wiry guitars.
At the heart of it, "Flashboy" is a long way from being a revolutionary song, but it's a fun three minutes that will doubtless be able to fill a few dance floors.
