SHOPPERS and motorists are being warned to be vigilant against thieves while defrosting their cars during the dark winter months.
Police have called the rush to buy last minute Christmas presents an ideal time to be targeted by an opportunistic thief.
A spokesman for Rossendale Police said: “The run up to Christmas provides many opportunities to thieves and they are constantly on the prowl.
“Please be vigilant when it comes to defrosting cars over the coming months.
“Never leave them unattended with the engine running.
“Similarly, as we rush about for that all important last minute shopping, be aware that by leaving items and bags on view, your car would be the ideal target for a would be thief.
“Don’t give them the opportunity to spoil your Christmas.”
